    Research Status of Microbial Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation Technology in Comprehensive Utilization of Tailings

    • Objective The enhancement of the comprehensive utilization rate of tailings represents a critical challenge in China. Microbial induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) technology has emerged as an efficient, controllable method for treating tailings, with minimal environmental pollution. Method Presently, MICP technology primarily focuses on the removal of heavy metals from tailings, stabilization of tailings ponds, and dust pollution control. Despite its innovativeness, MICP technology faces issues including low compressive strength, the complexity of tailings types, and challenges in scaling up. ResultThis study proposes the advancement of MICP technology through the integration of additives, alongside the promotion of in situ microbial treatment techniques, as solutions to these challenges. Conclusion It is posited that ongoing research will enable microbial-induced calcium carbonate precipitation technology to enhance tailings utilization rates significantly, while maintaining environmental sustainability.
